A special event in Newmarket

“MarketPLace Arts” will be running a four-day community wellbeing and arts event taking place in Newmarket from 11-14th September 2025 (12-6pm each day).

It aims to bring together local residents in and around a unique and uplifting space - a temporary inflatable venue called LUMINI, located at Memorial Gardens.

MBC has been asked to contribute a “Singing for Fun” session.

There will be two 30-minute sessions on Sunday, September 14 at 2:15 and 3:15.   

Each session will include the 4 “Last Night of the Proms” songs preceded by 2 or 3 songs typical of a SfF session.

It will be impractical to use a projector and screen, so words will be printed, which gives restrictions on song selection due to copyright issues, but we have ideas for that.

You might want to visit the Lumini when it is open to the public, but you’ll need to book.  The SfF sessions will be bookable by the public, but we can reserve some places, as it will be helpful to have some people who have taken part in SfF in the past.

This is an excellent opportunity for us to fulfil MBC’s mission of “A project for Newmarket and area -- Bringing people together through music”. We hope that some of the people coming along will want to join the regular monthly sessions in Exning.

Singing For Fun with Music Builds Communities

🎶 Come and Sing for Fun– Inside the Lumini! 🎶

Join Music Builds Communities for a fun, feel-good singing session inside the glowing, colourful world of Lumini.

Led by John Saville, this relaxed and joyful sing-along workshop is open to absolutely everyone: no experience needed, no sheet music, and no pressure. Book your ticket, join in, and feel the uplifting power of voices coming together.

Each session will include four of the regular items from “The Last Night of the Proms”. So, if you don’t make it to the Royal Albert Hall or Hyde Park the evening before, you can enjoy them with us. (Some Union flags will be provided!). A few well-known popular songs will precede them. Singing will be accompanied on acoustic guitars. Whether you sing every day or haven’t sung since school, you’re warmly welcome.
